Happy New Year

So 2006 has come and gone. A year of many ups and downs. Most unknowns still unknown. New questions, new energy to find answers. I feel like I missed a lot this year --- being on the road for over 1/2 the year doesn’t really make for “dating” or a “zip code” or “stability” or anything like that. But what it has brought is a new sense of self. I feel stronger. I feel more confident. I feel like there really is a new day ahead where I can actually feel like I’m in a place that has a semblance of home.

Last night I got to hang out in Chicago with mostly Christians who all have a common goal. To be real in the real world. How sad that too often that’s an exception to the rule. That most people see Christians as such outsiders that have no sense of life in the world. People who live by a list of don’ts instead of do’s.

So New Year's Eve we had great conversations over martinis (dry, shaken, 2 olives) about the important things in life – the state of the heart, loving your family and friends, unwrapping the great mysteries in front of us. And I think that’s my resolution. Live this year by do’s.

Today’s daily Sojourners Verse and Voice - (you should sign up for it on sojo.net) - has a great quote: “Whoever is on a journey towards God goes from one beginning to another beginning. Will you be among those who dare to tell themselves: “Begin again! Leave discouragement behind! Let your soul live!” - Brother Roger of Taize.

I love Chicago! Visit the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge--a legendary speakeasy-turned-jazz club in Uptown. It's right off the Red Line El's Lawrence stop, near the Aragon Ballroom.
